Is there any gospel story that so perfectly describes the heart of God toward rich and poor? Jesus does not deny the prestigious, but he does put them at the end of the line behind the outcast. He always serves the least, first.

Ian, many thanks for writing so fully. I'm glad you've found the site helpful. I try to tie the Lectionary readings together in a way that is helpful but that still has exegetical integrity. May you have dominionover the deluge from your shower!
Blessings

I stumbled across your blog whilst searching for commentary and ideas on the lectionary passages. I am a Methodist Local Preacher for my sins. I have preached, in the past, on the Lucan parallel to the Mark reading. That is interesting as, 'A day in the life of Jesus'. There is a fourfold Dominion over the deluge, the demonic, disease and death. My problem was that the previous sermon was dominating my thinking. Since reading your blog, I have been able to tie in your thoughts with what seemed to be an entirely unrelated train of thought that had been occupying my mind. I have been meditating on what we say - or don' t say - as a guide to our heart. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. And indeed the abundance of God's heart and His Word to us.

This has been a real blessing as I have had a week full of distractions thanks to a leaky shower. This has resulted inhave a builder in the house and I have not had the quiet necessary to concentration and prayer.

Finally, it has been a pleasure to read a scriptural expositon that ties the lectionary readings together. It is something that I strive to do and, sadly, something of a rarity in this day and age. So often the OT is ignored.

I look forward to exploring your website when I have a bit more time - and a shower back in place!
